Painting has much in common with poetry. Both try to create images and feelings in a compact form. I think of my geometric abstracts as haikus - abbreviated and structured.
I was listening to Vanessa Mae on my mp3 player the other night while falling asleep. Lines and shapes floated through my mind as I enjoyed the music. I had to try and make a painting from the experience.
I really enjoy paper. Early on in my art journey, I did mixed media collage for a couple of years. The different papers from all over the world were so delicious.
In science, when you want to examine a property you hold all the other variables in the system constant, make one change at a time and observe the reaction. It's a special pleasure to dive deeply into one topic; a luxury really.
